Summary The groundbreaking book by sociologist Robert Bellah, The Good Society, forms the backbone for this two-part program with Bill Moyers, which looks at two American cities uniquely struggling to make a better society. The first program looks at Atlanta. Often cited as America's most livable city, it is also one of the poorest cities in the nation. In spite of the divisions within the city-rich and poor, black and white-Atlanta is a place where people are coming together to work for a better community. Among those appearing in the program are former President Jimmy Carter, Mayor Maynard Jackson, as well as civic and community leaders.
